Flap Your Wings

Wings

I see you
Standing on the lip of the cliff
Peering over the edge
Gazing at the splendor stretched out before you
Your face all exhilaration
Yet you hesitate.
Why?

The vision below you
Carpets of rolling green
Cords of blue rivers and streams
Red swatches of flowers
Your face all excitement
Yet you hesitate.
Why?

I can see
In your heart’s backpack
Wadded up in a ball
Didn’t know they were there
You’ve never tried out your wings
You don’t know you can fly.
Yet.

When you can see
You will venture out
Admiring the tapestry of life’s beauty
Wings unfurled to the sun
Flying above the doubt
You won’t hesitate.
You will soar yet.

Even youths will become weak and tired,
and young men will fall in exhaustion.
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint. – Isaiah 40:30-31
