Thanks from U2

I was really struggling this morning with wanting to get up and start moving.  But the reading I had today, after the Year of Jubilee scriptures, included Psalm 40.  Perhaps you remember it?

I waited patiently for the Lord to help me,
and he turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the pit of despair,
out of the mud and the mire.
He set my feet on solid ground
and steadied me as I walked along.
He has given me a new song to sing,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see what he has done and be amazed.
They will put their trust in the Lord. – Psalm 40:1-5

Years ago, when we attended Lighthouse Christian Fellowship in Santa Cruz (aka surfer church), we sang this psalm put to music.  It was sort of a waltz. As I swayed to its rhythm, it reminded me of a drinking song. All we were missing were beer steins. I believe it was a Vineyard tune.

However, I have a confession. I’d only ever heard the Disco Saints version of this song, which is groovy, baby.  But the U2 version is infinitely better.

Be encouraged today, friends. God walks beside you and has good things planned for you, even on miry, murky Mondays.
