Soar

I keep hearing this word for 2016. I don’t want to say “This is my word for the year!” Because then it becomes like…

Ahem.

But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. – Isaiah 40:31

Soaring implies flying above the earth. It implies defying gravity and the things that would weigh us down. And eagles, well, they’re at the top of the food chain, right?  They sit as predators, not prey. Their enhanced vision allows them to pluck out a rabbit up to two miles away. I realize not everyone likes eagles, thinking them aggressive and possibly hostile. Maybe they seem a little gross, too, feasting on vermin.

I think what eagles symbolize is dominance. They rule the skies. Floating on air currents in the sky, they have total freedom. It’s their kingdom. They command the blue dome.

As children of God, we have that same legacy. We are to soar over this earth, lighter than air, unencumbered by worry, anxiety or stress. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind (1 Timothy 4:7). Our Abba watches over us, just as He does the eagles. We too can soar.
